Prayers for the Vigil or the Burial

Father,
we are here at the conclusion of one life,
to celebrate, though with sadness,
the beginning of a new life.
We thank you for having given N. the gift of life,
and we praise you for all you have done through him/her.

v. Lord, hear us.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.

We are all frail creatures, Father,
so we ask you to forgive N. his/her sins and failings,
in the confidence that he/she will be welcomed by the whole communion of saints,
and rest in peace.

v. Lord, hear us.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray, Father, for all who mourn N.,
that the pain of their sorrow may be softened,
and that the emptiness they feel
may be filled with your love.

v. Lord, hear us.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Mary, the Blessed Virgin, was close to Jesus when he died, Father,
so we know that she can understand our sorrow at this time;
we pray that her love and prayers would comfort us and help N.
as he/she journeys towards you.

v. Lord, hear us.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.

Father,
our time on earth passes quickly:
support us as we travel towards you,
and grant that we may all meet together with N.
in your heavenly presence.

v. Lord, hear us.
R. Lord, hear our prayer.
